Min Wage Hikes Kill MILLIONS of Jobs... But Opposing #Fightfor15 is "Racist"?!
Do you oppose a mandatory, job killing minimum wage hike? Not a fan of #FightFor15? That's because you have a brain. Also, you're a racist. Or at least according to Service Employees International Union you are...
A person attending the activist group Fight for $15's march in Richmond could easily have mistaken it for a protest by the Black Lives Matter movement rather than one for a $15 minimum wage, the march's stated purpose. This was intentional on the part of the event's organizers, mainly the Service Employees International Union, which hopes to use the fervor from the protests against police shootings of African-American males to fuel the political push to for a higher minimum wage.
Indeed, that was the purpose behind having the rally in Richmond. The key event was a march to a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. The organizers hoped to link opponents of a higher minimum wage to proponents of slavery. In each case, they argued, African Americans were denied their rights and forced to live in dire economic circumstances.
So this protest? It was really just a whiny crapnado intended to stir the pot. Racist accusations and demands abound - things that tend to go hand in hand these days (see #BLM Demands Black City Councilwoman Resign. For Talking Black-on-Black Crime?!). Not so subtle, SEUI. Also, not so logically sound. Then again, protests and logical soundness aren't really a thing. Just like Mickey D's workers being worth $15/hr isn't really a thing...
Also, minimum wage uppage helping the economy isn't a thing. Just take a look at what this recent report has to say about it.
Businesses would respond to these higher labor costs by reducing employment of affect workers by over one-sixth, thus elimination approximately seven million full-time-equivalent (FTE) jobs by 2021.
The glaring contradiction here? It's not that economists have warned that raising the minimum wage hurts more than it helps. And no, not even the fact that wage hikes hurt minority workers specifically. But good guesses. It's that the unions who are pushing #FightFor15... They want an exception to paying a $15 minimum wage.
So let me get this straight. If you oppose minimum wage hikes... You're a racist. Plain and simple. But the unions don't want to have to raise their minimum wage. Because reasons. Racist reasons, apparently. That's according to SEIU itself.
At the end of the day, #FightFor15 aims to diminish capitalism. These unions plan to hinder the free market via regulations and feel-goodery. But false feelings of "justice"? Hashtags? They don't change the fact that minimum wage hikes cost people jobs.
Speaking of capitalism...
