Speak Up Feminists! 'Miss World' Contested Criticizes China. Gets SILENCED by Pageant...
We usually don't write about pageants unless something funny or terrible has happened. Sometimes both (see 'Miss Transgender UK' Stripped... for Not Being 'Transgender Enough'?!). In this case, a pageant pro is being stomped out of the competition... By China.
Chinese authorities blocked Canadian beauty queen Anastasia Lin from attending the 65th annual Miss World pageant in China last year... The event's British organizers promised to allow her a chance to compete in the 2016 finals, currently in suburban Washington. She could smile but not speak out publicly during the event, which is largely sponsored by Chinese companies.
Her crime? Speaking out about China's human rights violations...
Over the past three weeks, Ms. Lin, outspoken critic of Chinese human rights abuses, has been barred from speaking to the news media. Pageant employees warned her that she would be ejected from the competition if she spoke to reporters. When a State Department official requested a meeting with Lin, to discuss the continuing harassment of her father in China, pageant executives refused to let her go..."They have specifically told her not to talk about human rights during the pageant, even though that is her official platform," [a friend] said.
I know, I know, it's not as if there's very much talking going on at pageant strut-a-thons anyhow. Walking takes a lot of focus. The major issue here? This is the Miss World pageant. As in not Miss China. It's taking place in Washington. Yet the international event is still doing the bidding of Chinese, communist overlords...
All these different countries united to celebrate beautiful people who are really great at... Well, it doesn't matter. It was meant to be a worldwide beauty contest. Aaaaand then China took over the event. Surprise! They've since turned it into a censorship brigade, which is standard operating procedure for them (see CENSORSHIP SUMMIT: Facebook Meets With China's Propaganda Chief). Another day, another dissenter silenced...
Therein lies the big, fat, chicken fried problem with globalism. Different nations have different values. This event was supposed to be the ultimate test of face symmetry. But China's interests have less to do with ranking face flesh. Moreso forcing intellectual conformity, as seems to be the case with most globalist groups. Oops.
Speaking of silencing...
