Liam Neeson is remaking the 80s classic "The Naked Gun," and God help us, this actually looks hilarious
We've all felt that cringe go up our spines when we hear Hollywood is remaking a classic movie from our youth. They almost NEVER are any good, and turn into satirical parodies of the source material if not modernized, woke bullplop. But what if you announce a remake of satire? Those of us in the age range of unc to oldhead remember the 80s classic "The Naked Gun" along with the two sequels. A Hollywood remake? There is no way this won't piss us off!
They just dropped a teaser trailer (you know how I feel about those) for the remake and... God help me saying this, it ACKSHUALLY looks hilarious.
The single most important #NakedGun movie since the other Naked Gun movies. Only in theatres August 1st. pic.twitter.com/WpLRbBD37L

If this were a Disney remake, the movie would be about four women preaching to us about life lessons, and any reference to Frank Drebin would be incidental. Instead, we get Liam Neeson dressed like a schoolgirl. Definite upgrade.
Some of you might not get why so many of us are sharing this in the group chat. Here's the original.

The story is about the children of the original movie. Nesson plays the son of Leslie Nielsen. Paul Walter Hauser plays the son of Captain Ed Hocken, portrayed in the original by the great George Kennedy. And there is a black guy to make the OJ Simpson joke, which the fact that they make it IN the trailer shows promise for the rest of the movie.
As does that it's produced by Seth McFarlane. Yeah, I know, blah, blah, blah, he's a lib, yackty schmackity he doesn't like Trump, derpity derp. When it comes to comedy, McFarlane remains a connoisseur of the classics.
It's just nice to see them making comedies again. You keep hearing that studios no longer want to make comedies. Theo Von and Adam Devine recently discussed how when Devine pitches a comedy, the first question is, "Why do we need to make this movie?"
"Because it's funny" isn't a good enough answer. And the few comedies that do get made?
"You get to the end of what you think was a comedy and you're like, 'Was this about global warming? Was there some deep hidden message I should recycle more?"
"Wait, so the moon is trans?"
In 2025, we're getting a Happy Gilmore sequel and a reboot of Naked Gun. At least some people want to Make America Laugh Again. The Naked Gun reboot may even get me into the movie theater again. As the saying goes, we are so back!
