In a debate team, you are sometimes forced to debate topics that you don’t believe in. At least that is what I had to do in college. Although I hated debating in favor of a leftist cause that I loathe, I still did it with the intent of winning the debate, which I did. Now, you would think that high school students participating in one of the most prestigious national high school debate tournaments would do the same. But nope, not if it means denying the existence of “trans genocide.”

For the record, there is no trans genocide.

James Fishback posted on X the final round of students participating in a debate for the National Speech and Debate Association that is just too painful to watch.

Team A refused to debate the assigned topic, which was the benefits/costs of the IMF because they alleged that trans people are being genocided by Republicans and that is way more important than the debate.

Across the US, there were a total of 266 hate crimes against transgender people in 2020. In total, 44 members of the trans community were murdered, according to The New York Post.

In the Washington Examiner, Dennis Kneale notes, “This works out to a murder rate for trans people of just 2.66 people per 100,000 transgender people. The murder rate in the general population is almost three times as high — 6.52 people per 100,000.”

I guess the prestigious debaters did not do much research since the murder rate in the general population is almost three times as high as in the trans community.

This scene starts off with Team A playing an audio clip from an AIDs protest that took place in the 1980s and said that “28 states want to kill” trans people. They inform judges that this "does nothing to the IMF itself" and they have subsequently decided that "this round is going to be a debate about debate" and proudly declare that they will "occupy the debate space until trans debaters can participate safely."

The debate occurred virtually but debaters gave up because they said trans people were not safe over Zoom.

Team B concedes the round since they would rather do that than “deny trans genocide is real” and be called a transphobe.

You can probably guess how the rest plays out as it has turned into a “struggle session” where Team A claims misgendering is “violent” and that should automatically make you lose if you commit this act.

You know, because speech is violence.

“The worst part? The judges praised Team A for their bravery and courage and crowned them the national champions. This is sick. It’s anti-merit, anti-debate, and anti-American. No wonder droves of kids are quitting high school debate,” Fishback wrote in the X post.

Basically, the judges decided the winners were the ones who avoided the debate and used the tactic of shutting up their opponent.

At another point, Team A went against another team that argued that Team A should lose because one of the members was white.

This team really won the debate because they were racist. Total clown show.

This whole thing was not only nonsensical but the antithesis of debate.

The debate just turned into a support group for disordered high school students, and they won because of it.

Social justice movements are being prioritized over education. What a perfect example of how our current education system works.
