Every so often, a piece of journalisming hackery comes along you need to tip your hat to. Something that is so transparent and illustrates how little self-respect journalismers have for themselves, you can't be mad at it. NBC News dropped a deuce this week. The first was fact-checking Ron DeSantis for rescuing Americans from Israel because he didn't fly the plane himself. The second is this bit using Nikki Haley's daughter.

At the debate this week, Vivek Ramaswamy brought up Haley's 25-year-old daughter in a political attack. It was smug, tacky, weak. One thing I don't bend on is that politicians' kids who haven't entered the arena are off-limits. Don't care about the political party. Ron DeSantis was asked about that debate moment and agreed, “I think the kids are out of bounds. I didn’t think that was an appropriate thing to do."

Here's how NBC News framed it.

While Hunter Biden is an adult, so is Haley’s daughter — albeit a few decades younger than the president's son. Both, however, are politicians’ children who are not in elected office.

NBC then pointed out how DeSantis will make jokes about Hunter on the campaign trail, whether it be his cocaine use or his affection for hookers.

It is true that neither Haley's daughter nor Joe's second-favorite son are elected officials? Yes. Do you know who also isn't an elected official? Donald Trump Jr..

That's fine, though. Donald Trump Jr. will tell you himself that he is fair game because he chose to enter the public arena. Baron Trump and Tiffany Trump are not. Chelsea Clinton is fair game. Sasha and Malia Obama are not. Ashley Biden should be left alone, but after her dad sent the FBI after James O'Keefe over her diary, he made that difficult to do.

Nikki Haley's daughter is a nurse who is so out of the arena that I don't even know her name. Hunter Biden is under investigation for using his former vice president's father's political connections to make himself rich.

I get that NBC News has orders to circle the wagons around Biden whenever they can. But this ain't it.
