Elderly Rocker Neil Young Demands Spotify Censor Joe Rogan or He's Taking His Music Elsewhere
Joe Rogan is the most popular podcaster in the world. A man whose audience, much like "Golden Girls" reruns, dwarfs CNN's audience. Neil Young is a 76-year-old former rock star. I'd tell you youngbloods to google him, but even GenXers like myself only know him from doing some songs with Pearl Jam in the 90s. Neil Young is demanding Spotify remove his entire catalog of music until they do something about Rogan and all his alleged misinformation.
Rolling Stone was the first to report this. I'm linking to a different site because Rolling Stone is behind a paywall and f*ck Rolling Stone. Young wrote a (since removed) open letter to his management team that he posted to his website, demanding they let Spotify know immediately TODAY that his music is to be removed from their platform. “I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines–potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them." Young then told his management team to keep him informed of the time schedule.
Then Young said, and I quote, "They can have Rogan or Young. Not both." In the history of "Okay, Boomer," never have eight words been more okay-boomerish.
Rogan, who signed a $100 million deal in May 2020 giving Spotify exclusive rights to his hugely popular podcast, has come under fire for having conversations with people that sometimes go against the left's preferred narrative. Prior to the pandemic, Rogan was attacked over certain gender-based conversations. Late last year, Joe Rogan caught the coronavirus. Then he took medicine that goes against the preferred media narrative of a vaccine and locking yourself in the basement. Then he stopped having the coronavirus. That incident, plus Joe Rogan's instance on having guests on his show who have a diverse range of opinions about the pandemic, has been labeled "misinformation" by liberals and the corporate media (but I repeat myself).
The new thing is for people to gather their friends together and write open letters to Spotify demanding the platform stop letting Joe Rogan say words. That must have been where Neil Young got the idea. I just don't understand why Young needed an open letter to contact his lawyers and his management team. I would have just sent them an email.
