New Jersey Governor Proposes Enormous Tax Increases on Guns
Ah, New Jersey. The place where left turns and pumping your own gas are no buenos. Where Bruce Springsteen's unintelligible mumbling passes for music. The Garden State is well known for its lefty tendencies. Now, they're on the verge of taking their leftism even further.
Their anti-gun governor is trying to use taxes to put the kibosh on boomstickery. Yes, really:
Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy is proposing legislation that would drastically increase the fees on firearms in New Jersey, hiking the cost to buy and sell guns by up to 2,400 percent. The proposal includes various steep tax increases such as raising the cost of handgun permits, required to purchase a firearm in New Jersey, from $2 to $50, reports Guns.com.
Other changes include increasing identification card fees 1,900 percent to $100, dealer licenses 900 percent to $500 and manufacturer licenses 900 percent to $1,500.
Fees on carry permits, which are already known for being difficult to acquire in New Jersey, are expected to increase an additional 700 percent to $400. Across the state line in Pennsylvania, carry permits are only $20.
It would seem the Jersey leftists' plan is to make picking up or parting with a piece for money require budgeting. An advanced degree in financial wizardry. Maybe even a second mortgage. So, if you're a Garden Stater who expects to get that Smith & Wesson of your dreams, you had best start planning now.
I can't say this move is all that surprising. After all, this is the state where schools suspend students for the crime of popping off a few rounds at the range with their family. Their hatred for all things gat is well-documented.
These lefties are trying to circumvent the Constitution by making the acquisition of a boomstick unaffordable. If they can't get an outright ban, pay walls and extortion will suffice. This is that "common sense" they've been talking about.
Speaking of that:
