New York Times Mocks Americans, Celebrates 'Experts' Responsible for Lockdowns with the 'Fauci Awards'
Last week, Bill Maher ran a segment on how misinformed so many Democrats are about pandemic-related things. He asked the question, "Shouldn't liberal media have to answer for 'How did your audience wind up believing such a bunch of crap about COVID?'" You may even want to re-review Maher's video as an appetizer to the following one. New York Times Opinion — aka "the liberal media" — presenting the Fauci Awards. Where they celebrate the government official responsible for the lockdowns and mock frustrated Americans in the process.

This is what happens when we don't listen to our scientists. It shouldn't be this way. Our public health officials deserve our trust. Our support. Our recognition. Maybe even a real awards ceremony someday.
Here's the thing. Had NYT Opinion just said there should be an award show for front-line workers, there's no complaint from me. But they're not celebrating any front-line workers. They're celebrating "public health officials." Also known as government bureaucrats. Some of whom who were responsible for the lockdowns over a year and fifteen days to flatten the curve ago. And EVEN THEN, while it would still reak of progressive douchebaggery, it's not like you get an NYT opinion unless you're a progressive douchebag.
No, it's not enough to celebrate the government. Let's mock Americans who have grown increasingly frustrated by the government's decisions. Judging by this video, fathers aren't allowed to be angry that their kid's school is still being closed. Mothers should keep quiet over their kids having to wear a mask in the playground. They should shut up and listen to the "science." One could argue school closures and forcing kids to wear masks aren't based in science. But that would depend on how you define science. For NYT Opinion, "science" is whatever government officials say science is.
Also, most Americans weren't outraged when these government officials made their decisions at the beginning of the pandemic. Some were (hi Courtney), and more should have been. But Americans, generally speaking, went along with it. The frustration didn't come until the months later, until the decisions the government officials made started to make less and less sense. Now that we're over a year into it and can see states that DIDN'T blindly listen to the CDC are doing better than the states that did, Americans' frustrations are understood.
NYT Opinion wants to celebrate blindly following government officials and shame anyone in America for not doing the same. Though in the Grey Lady's defense, viewing the world with your head lodged up your hind parts has been known to skew how you see the world. The Fauci Awards deserve a lifetime achievement at the 2020 Eat a Dick Awards.
