Newspaper Suppresses Identity of Mass Shooting Suspect Claiming it Would 'Perpetuate Stereotypes'
There was a mass shooting in Austin over the weekend. While the definition of "mass shooting" lately depends on who's using it, for this instance we'll accept the left's latest newspeak. Someone fired a gun at more than one person. Democrats will most likely use the situation to try and take yours. All we know at present moment is that there were thirteen victims, the shooter is still at large, and the Austin-American Statesman is hiding a description of who the suspect is. Three guesses why.
Police have only released a vague description of the suspected shooter as of Saturday morning. The Austin American-Statesman is not including the description as it is too vague at this time to be useful in identifying the shooter and such publication could be harmful in perpetuating stereotypes.
I see. Take a minute amongst yourselves to guess which stereotype may be perpetuated. Keep in mind, as of me writing this sentence, the suspect is still at large.
What we ARE being told is that the suspect of a mass shooting was NOT a young, white, Trump supporter angry at young, white Trump supporter things. Because if that was the case, it would be in the Statesman's headline and in the first three paragraphs. Paragraph four would be them attacking Ted Cruz and John Cornyn for their "thoughts and prayers." Reporters would have tracked down the suspect's social media history and been scouring it for any photo where the suspect may have made the "okay" sign with his fingers.
Here's the "vague" description in question released by police.
There is one suspect described as a black male, with dread locks, wearing a black shirt and a skinny build.
That's not a vague description. That's what police release anytime they are looking for any suspect. Skin color + size + clothing + anything other identifiable characteristics. In the Statesman's dream scenario, it would be "white male wearing a red ball cap and scrawny, believed to be flying the American flag on their truck." Police don't care either way. They just want to catch the guy who shot a baker's dozen worth of people.
Most offensive, the Statesman could have just left out the description. Or, included a link to the press release and let people click on their own. Instead, they'd wanted to make sure YOU knew they were withholding information to score woke points. More important than helping police find a mass shooter was them signaling their virtue so brightly you could see it in Houston.
This is the media in 2021. Think about that.
