No Cosmo, Republicans Don't Want to Criminalize 'Peaceful' Protests...
Cosmo wants to be one of the voices of the Resistance (see Ashley Judd Embarrasses Herself at Women's March and Madonna's Fantasized About Blowing Up The White House). The magazine may want to think about getting their facts straight. Or maybe not, because tabloids seem to make more money when they make up their own facts. Like this article alleging Republicans want to criminalize "peaceful" protests. The article is as sound as Madonna's addled noggin.
According to The Intercept, several proposals have been introduced by Republican legislators over the past few weeks specifically targeting protests that block or obstruct traffic — including a North Dakota bill that would allow motorists to hit and kill protesters obstructing the highway "as long as [the] driver does so accidentally."
Okay, so right off I have a semantics issue. If protesters are blocking or "obstructing" traffic, they've ceased being peaceful protesters, no? Now they're impeding people's daily routines and movements. Possibly negatively. As in, Bob Ross has to get to work to paint Muhammad and he's on a deadline. He can't get to his happy studio because a dummy with a pink "pussy" hat is standing in the street protesting something she's not even clear on. Why does Pussy McStupid get to infringe on Bob Ross? Why can't Pussy McStupid move to a sidewalk and wave her papier mache vagina there?
Another bill in Minnesota would make obstructing a highway a "gross misdemeanor" punishable by a hefty fine of $3,000 and up to a year in jail, while a separate piece of legislature would make "obstructing the legal process" punishable by an even heftier fine of up to $10,000 plus "imprisonment of not less than 12 months." Similar bills designed to criminalize and discourage protests have also been proposed in Washington, Iowa, and Michigan.
The REAL laws proposed actually involve criminalizing blocking traffic and freeways (a misdemeanor in some states, more severe in others). Basically, it won't charge people for accidentally running them over. My guess is, as we've seen from the highlights, many people hit protesters who think they're immune to cars when they enter a car's designated domain... the street. And the judicial system doesn't have time for it. The protesters are aiming to get hit. We've seen it. Related: Columbus Day Protesters Block Traffic, Threaten Driver. Get RUN OVER!
In which the kitten is the car. I know it's stretching, but it's funny. Go with it.
Guarantee you these laws Cosmo has their panties in a twist over, come from a voting constituency of WORKING class people. Complaining because they can't get to work. Work they need to pay their bills, mortgages...taxes, but probably not a subscription to Cosmo. Spitballing.
It's amazing the breakdown of demographics now:
Democrats stand with Hollywood, Pussy Hats and #BlackLivesMatter.
Republicans stand with everybody else in America.
Democrats wonder why we don't respect them.
Cosmo should stick with what they know...
