Here you were gearing up for a good weekend, but then you saw this unsightly creature.

Only New York liberals can ruin a Friday with such ease. All it took was a swift scribble of the pen.

Gov. Cuomo on Friday signed an executive order restricting the ability of state officials - including law enforcement officers - to inquire about immigration status.

Under the order, State Police and other state-run law enforcement agencies would only be allowed to ask about an individual's immigration status if they are investigating criminal activity.

Here's where things start making even less sense. According to this new order, officers can now only ask about immigration if they're investigating criminal activity. But being here illegally IS CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.

Asking someone at random about their immigration status counts as investigating a possible crime. Illegal immigration may not be a crime according to leftists, but it is according to the law (see Morons Who Don't Understand 'LEGAL' vs 'ILLEGAL' Immigration Stage #ADayWithoutImmigrants Protest!).

Methinks Cuomo inhaled too much New York sewer pollutants on his way to work this morning. Something isn't right in the ole noggin.

Individuals seeking assistance from police or looking to report a crime would be protected from immigration inquiries. Similarly, the oder prevents all other state agencies from inquiring about or disclosing an individual's immigration status unless the information is required by law to determine eligibility for benefits.

"As Washington squabbles over rolling back sensible immigration policy, we are taking action to help protect all New Yorkers from unwarranted targeting by the government," Cuomo said.

Governor Cuomo wants these criminals to pay no heed to the law because of course. It's too mean and feelings and stuff. So ICE will have to come in and do NYPD's job for them -- which is to enforce the law, not feel-goodery. Now ICE will have to get the job done while getting zero cooperation from local officials (see Oregon Judge Helps Illegal Criminal Escape ICE Agents. Yes, Really...).

Swell job, Cuomo! Give yourself a pat on the back.

The left is currently picking and choosing which parts of the law they want to uphold like they're at a salad bar at the local Hometown Buffet. Doesn't work that way. We can't keep one part and throw out the rest whenever we please. The law loses all meaning when we entertain such nonsense. Also, it's not a salad if it's just croutons and bacon. Stop kidding yourselves.

You've likely already noticed Democrat gasbags have a habit of destroying the meaning of words and laws. Once they do so, it gives them free reign to implement whatever arbitrary definitions or rules they see fit. All the while it's you who has to abide by this chaos. Not them.
