NYC courthouse erects demonic-looking statute they claim is meant to pay homage to Ruth Bader Ginsburg
From statues of George Floyd to phallic monuments dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., modern "art" has gradually overtaken our cities. Case in point: a New York City courthouse is now adorned with this terrifying demonic figure that's apparently supposed to represent Ruth Bader Ginsburg and abortion, which I guess makes sense.
“A new statue atop a New York City courthouse. The artist says it’s part of an “urgent and necessary cultural reckoning underway as New York reconsiders traditional representations of power in public spaces and recasts civic structures to better reflect 21st-century social mores.””— Andrew Beck (@Andrew Beck) 1674655493
The statue is a terrifying 8 feet tall and shows a Medusa-looking creature with tentacles emerging from a lotus flower. It's also wearing Ruth Bader Ginsburg's signature lace collar. It stands near the statues of Moses, Confucius, and Zoroaster.
The artist behind the, ahem, "masterpiece," is 53-year-old Shahzia Sikander. Sikander said the sculpture "was part of an urgent and necessary cultural reckoning underway as New York, along with cities across the world, reconsiders traditional representations of power in public spaces and recasts civic structures to better reflect 21st-century social mores [...] She is a fierce woman and a form of resistance in a space that has historically been dominated by patriarchal representation."
Personally, I was fine with the traditional, non-demonic "representations of power," but maybe that's just me. Perhaps New Yorkers love abortion Medusa watching over their every moment.
The statue is called "NOW" because, according to Sikander, it was needed...now. Y'know, due to the rampant attacks on women's "reproductive freedom" and "bodily autonomy," which is leftist for "you can't kill quite as many of your babies in some states."
"NOW" is also apparently "in dialogue" with another statue by Sikander, "Witness" in Madison Square Park. That one is 18 feet tall and equally, if not more, terrifying. Its dome skirt apparently represents the stained-glass dome of the courthouse and symbolizes the need to “break the legal glass ceiling.”
I'm not entirely sure what "glass ceiling" they're referring to since there are currently four female justices on the Supreme Court. Though they probably don't count Amy Coney Barrett.
