Did Elon Musk Strip NYT's Verification Badge Over Their Fake News And Anti-Israel Misinformation?
Reports flooded social media Friday morning after some people alleged that The New York Times lost its verification badge, following a flood of disinformation it published on the Israel-Hamas war. As of writing this, The Times currently has its little blue checkmark.
There are three things that are true right now. We have seen screenshots of a badgeless New York Times X profile. It does appear they posted inaccurate and misleading information about the Israel-Hamas war. And they do have their blue badge as of right now.
Also, this would not be the first Elon stripped the outlet of its holy mark.
“The real tragedy of @NYTimes is that their propaganda isn’t even interesting,” Musk said in April. He added, “Also, their feed is the Twitter equivalent of diarrhea. It’s unreadable. They would have far more real followers if they only posted their top articles. Same applies to all publications.”
This came after the outlet publicly cried that it had to pay the verification fee that would practically charge them nothing. While they make you pay to read their so-called “articles.”
But we all know that the New York Times is a great "toilet paper alternative," as The Babylon Bee recently said, and no way will we pass on a moment to trash on the outlet.
Let’s take a look at the allegations that reportedly did or did not get the newspaper to lose its identity.
According to reports, The New York Times lied and said that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza and used a photo of a building in a different location to make it look like a hospital. They also allegedly made edits to headlines several times in one day about the hospital bombing.
Initially, many claimed that the blast occurred at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital itself, but footage from Wednesday morning showed it appeared to have happened in the parking lot of the hospital, with none of the buildings surrounding it sustaining significant damage.
Rather than wait to confirm what really went on, The Times allegedly took it upon themselves to use images from different incidents that showed buildings that had been completely destroyed.
The New York Times thinks that we should trash the Constitution. But the lack of self-awareness here is astounding. You know, because they are trash.
Based on the allegations, it really does make one wonder if the outlet lifted photographs of a different incident to deliberately smear Israel and promote hatred against them.
But they said “Palestinians Say” in their headlines, so to them, that must have meant it was A-okay.
This is a classic form of gaslighting that mainstream media outlets often utilize. They will use terms like “Palestinians” or “Palestinian Government,” rather than say “Hamas.” But it is Hamas. They just think you are too dumb to make the connection that they are the same thing. And they definitely know how bad it would look if they credited their source to a known terrorist organization.
I guess since they allegedly said “Palestinians Say” they can then claim they were telling the truth. But then they are just reporting narrative rather than news at this point.
All that said, the outlet is garbage and as Dave Portnoy put it, you are better off getting your news from The Babylon Bee.
