Oregon Wants to Tax You for Driving Per Mile. No Seriously...
Oregon. A liberal paradise, where the government can try and bankrupt you for being Christian, and whose liberal policies have already made it among the worst states to make a living, are stepping up their game. They want to tax you for driving.
No, seriously. Tax you... for driving.
Oregon’s Department of Transportation is hoping to get 5,000 people to volunteer to install a small device under their steering wheels that will track their mileage and charge drivers’ credit cards one and a half pennies for each mile driven, Fox News reported Friday.Transportation officials say the growing numbers of electric and hybrid cars has left the gas tax flat and unable to fund road maintenance.
“We’re trying to make up for a growing deficit, really, because inflation’s eating away at our ability to buy asphalt and rebar and the things we need to maintain the roads,” Tom Fuller of the Oregon Department of Transportation told Fox News.
Ironically enough, Oregon was the first state to impose a gas tax in 1919, and it is now at 30 cents per gallon.
Okay, a few things here:
1. LOL at the reason they're giving... that it's "because of the fuel efficient cars". So all those people who bought fuel efficient cars thinking they were sticking it to Big Oil are now getting stuck... by Big Government. How's that for an oil-check?
2. Does anyone really believe that it's going to stay voluntary? Like, for realzies?
3. Does anyone not think that they're going to impose this tax AND still raise a gas tax?
The answer to #2 and #3 are Oregon leftists.
Oregon: sticking it to the middle-class since 1919.
