Watch: Pete Buttigieg finally comments on East Palestine disaster with comment proving his incompetence
I hope you've all heard by now about the devastating train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. If not, a quick recap: a train carrying vinyl chloride derailed, spilling the hazardous chemical everywhere. Naturally, authorities decided to burn the vinyl chloride to get rid of it. But don't worry, it was a controlled burn...that just so happened to create phosgene gas, a chemical weapon used in World War I. Small details.
So Ohio has essentially been Chernobyl'd, and the federal government is nowhere to be found. FEMA has denied East Palestine emergency assistance, saying it doesn't qualify as a "traditional disaster". And actually, they're right - it's an apocalyptic nuclear disaster.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg had been silent amid calls for his resignation, yesterday Buttigieg implied that things like this happen all the time, saying, "While this horrible situation has gotten a particularly high amount of attention, there are roughly 1,000 cases a year of a train derailing."

Yeah, come on guys, don't you remember all the towns with giant swirling clouds of toxic gas hovering overhead? It happens every year!
Not to mention, what a lame deflection. "There are thousands of these every year." Yeah, and whose job is it to fix that? Sounds like someone's a little too focused on the number of white people in construction.

In another interview with an NBC affiliate station, Buttigieg was if he would make a trip to East Palestine to survey the damage himself, given he is Transporation Secretary. Buttigieg said he hopes "he'll have the chance to visit" and he's "certainly interested in getting to know the residents of East Palestine".
I'm sure they're eager to "get to know" Buttigieg as well. They'd have much to discuss!
“The Mayor of East Palestine DID decide to take questions at the “open house” last night. Resident: Where’s Pete Buttigieg? Where’s he at?
Mayor: I don’t know. Your guess is as good as me. Yesterday was the first time I heard anything from the White House. @LucasFoxNews”— Dagen McDowell (@Dagen McDowell) 1676554208
It's almost like there's a cover-up going on and no one in charge wants to take responsibility. Shocking.
