Pete Hegseth is all but certain to become the next Secretary of Defense, but not without the left and the media (but I repeat myself) making one last desperate attempt to collect their scalp. Out of options, they are running the Brett Kavanaugh playbook again.

When last we spoke, the situation looked a little something like this:

Democrat senators had the opportunity to question Hegseth in a hearing, and they embarrassed themselves doing so. After Donald Trump was sworn in as president, the Hegseth nomination was voted out of committee and set to go to the floor for a full vote.

Of course, a new hit piece dropped. Dr. Hegseth's ex-wife's sister made some accusations that didn't come out until the day after the vote.

Denying the allegations? Hegseth's ex-wife.

They are running the Kavaunagh playbook. Wait until the hearing is over. Then leak a "scandalous" accusation to the press knowing that if the Democrats lie, they can count on journalismers to swear by it. The plan is to scare off a Republican senator or two and force Trump to pull the nomination. Democrats can collect their scalp, and then they can move on to RFK Jr. and Kash Patel.

It worked for Dems in the past. Where it failed is that they were not expecting Trump and Kavanaugh -- who is a Supreme Court Justice now despite leftists' best efforts -- to fight back. As Scott Jennings posted, they haven't learned a damn thing.

They tried calling Pete Hegseth a rapist. When that didn't stick, they tried calling him a drunk. Now this. When this doesn't stick, there will be a filibuster attempt over an anonymous source speaking under condition of anonymity who claims their best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who claims they saw Hegseth kicked a puppy.

After that, it will come from someone who heard it from a friend who heard it from another friend who heard it from another he made a Girl Scout cry when they refused to buy cookies.

At this point, all of Trump's nominees need to pass for no other reason than f*ck you. Primaries to any GOP senator who votes against them. Enough is enough.
