TOLERANCE: Philadelphia Tries to Combat Drug Use... With 'Safe-Injection' Sites?!
Philadelphia is known for many things. The Liberty Bell, water, ice, the soda tax, to name a few. Also - and I’m sure you didn’t see this one coming - a skyrocketing drug problem. Which is why city officials have come up with a plan to combat the issue. "Plan" here is a loose definition. Kind of like if we said "Amy Schumer is hot."
Introducing “safe-injection” sites:
Philadelphia, the city with the highest opioid death rate out of all major U.S. cities, will introduce safe-injection sites—where people can shoot up drugs under medical supervision, according to city officials. This would make Philadelphia the first American city to establish such a program in an effort to decrease drug-related deaths.
Never say they didn't care. About promoting drug use. More details:
The move, announced at a 1 p.m. press conference by high-ranking city officials — but not Mayor Jim Kenney — places the city at the forefront of confronting the opioid crisis, which killed an estimated 1,200 people in Philadelphia last year, quadruple the homicide rate.“We are facing an epidemic of historic proportions,” said Health Commissioner Thomas Farley, as the room, filled with advocates, erupted in applause.
The concept is simple: save lives first, then help people with addiction get into drug treatment and safe housing.
Too many drugs. Solution? Wheel out more drugs! Just cleaner ones. But only in safe spaces. These safe spaces will also include resources to help people stop addiction. You know, after the junkies indulge a little afternoon delight in the company of other junkies.
This will make Philly the first American city to implement this system. Word on the street is other cities wanted to give it a whirl, but didn't in fear of global ridicule. Or being compared to single-celled amoebas. Maybe we'll see some Californian cities volunteering themselves as the next experimental playground for policies less valuable than Lena Dunham's Hillary poster. It'll go nicely with all the sanctuary cities.
By the way, I'm sure you can guess who will be footing the bill for all this fun stuff. Just another thing for Pennsylvania taxpayers to look forward to. Other than the increase in "safe" drug use.
Yes, some people will do drugs no matter the cost. But enabling them to do so ensures the pattern of suck will never cease. This is the tolerant approach. No judging allowed because druggies have feels too. They don't want to be addicts, they just want better tools for their addiction. Give it to them or you hate people.
Philadelphia's trying to be the "cool" mom who lets her kids do drugs as long as they're shooting up in HER garage, not a stranger's. Safety first! #Caring
