Watch: Canadian conservative wrecks reporter's smug face over media reports on the Niagra Falls "terrorist" car explosion
Pierre Poilievre is someone to keep on your radar. He is believed to be the opponent for Justin "I Feel Pretty" Trudeau whenever Canada decides to have another election. He also puts on master classes in how to take on the media. Yesterday, he shut a reporter down so hard she couldn't find anything else to come out of her facehole.
On Wednesday, when most of us had mentally checked out for the week, there was a car explosion on the "Rainbow Bridge" that connects America and America Jr. in Niagra Falls. The initial reports were that it was terrorism, and understandably so. Intelligence officials had put NY on alert for a potential terror attack. This incident wound up to be caused by a reckless driver instead.
Poilievre was asked by Paola Loriggio if it was responsible for him to speculate about terrorism ... that he got from MEDIA REPORTS of there being a terror-related event.
"What I said, and I was right, is that there were MEDIA REPORTS of a terror-related event. By your admission, there were media reports of a terror-related event. And that media report, according to CTV, unless you're questioning their integrity now, came from security officials in the Trudeau government. So do you think CTV was irresponsible in putting out that tweet?"
Speechless.
So she went back to questioning if it was responsive for Polievre to make a comment based on...
...what the Trudeau government told the media.
Then the mic drop.
"I just hope you're not going to print something you have to apologize for again."
It will never cease to amaze me how reporters can't say, "That's a fair point" or "You got me on that one." Nor do they ever have the self-awareness to hear the words coming out of their mouths.
An official repeats what media reports have been saying. Those media reports turned out to be wrong. So the reporter asks the official if it was responsible for HIM to repeat what media reports had said.
It's not the fault of the media for their reports being wrong. It's the fault of the conservative politician for mentioning what he had read in the media.
And when another poll comes out that labels journalism to be one of the least trusted institutions in Canada, Paola Loriggio won't understand why.
