Lefties call us paranoid for thinking our gun rights are in danger of going bye-bye. Then, things happen that prove we're not fit for a straightjacket after all. A man was grieving the loss of his wife and daughter and mentioned suicide. Which led the police to fire up the blue lights and confiscate his boomsticks. No, you're not imagining this.

John McGuire was inside his house with 81 guns when five state troopers were dispatched to investigate a threat he had reportedly made.

“Person Posing Risk to Self or Others,” read the bold lettering on top of the warrant.

Probable cause: “McGuire stated to a medical technician that . . . he was going to kill himself by burning his house down and blowing his head off with a revolver.”

Number of registered firearms: “38 or more.”

Purpose of search: “Take any and all firearms to prevent imminent personal injury.”

“Will I get them back?” he asked as the officers carried guns out by the armful, and an officer said there would be a court hearing in a few weeks.

Notice the distinct lack of any due process before the po-po made him hand over his arsenal. Just on word-of-mouth alone, the nanny state decided Mr. McGuire was an unfit father to those wonderful 81 guns. So, they took it upon themselves to make those guns their own.

What's especially ironic is the left is usually onboard with allowing people to end their lives. Yet, the moment a gun enters the picture they're the biggest pro-lifers you ever saw. "Confiscate them all! The sanctity of life must be preserved!" For some reason. Injecting a lethal cocktail of drugs into your veins is a-okay. Injecting a chunk of lead into your cranium, however, is a major no bueno.

People's rights don't go out the window just because somebody said somebody said something questionable. Due process is a thing. Or, at least it used to be anyway. Nowadays, it seems like bureaucratic dunces can do as they please, so long as they have ink in their pen.

The left will do whatever they can to take your guns away. That's the lesson here. We often hear the vague "BUT MENTAL HEALTH" tossed about as irresponsibly as Broward's SRO in a golf cart. This story does have a sorta-kinda happy ending. The guy eventually got his gats back after he demonstrated he was of "sound mind." Keep in mind though, the left wants to expand these policies and make this sort of thing the norm. Scary. Be wary. Don't echo the left. "Mental health" isn't a good enough reason to deprive someone of their rights.
