"Queer Eye" star slapped with brutal fact-check after claiming "science" says trans women don't hold athletic advantages over women
"Queer Eye" star Jonathan Van Ness made a claim that, according to science, trans women who were born men do not hold athletic advantages over cis women. AKA, women. X's Community Notes is quick to point out, "LOLWUT?"
We all know the debate by now. One side of the debate, the side that believes in biology, feels that because boys are born with certain biological advantages in strength and athletics, it is unfair for them to compete against girls. Effectively robbing girls of opportunities like scholarships and being able to discover themselves as they learn, grow, and develop.
The other side of the debate is anti-science, votes Democrat, and thinks you're a transphobe. Van Ness is on that side of the debate.
It started on Dax Sheppard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, where the host made the mistake of asking milquetoast questions like "How do we know that the person’s not gonna change their mind?,” and whether the inclusion of transgender athletes is safe or fair for cis-women in the sports.

Van Ness followed up in this Instagram video, where -- they(?) -- made the claim “The science that we have now says that transgender women do not hold an unfair biological advantage over cis women." I guess technically it was Variety who got fact-checked over this ludicrous claim. Even though they are being fact-checked over a quote from Van Ness.
Either way: "There are biological differences between males & females that give males on average greater strength & speed (among other things) than women. We have known about sex differences for the entirety of our history as a species."
Another Twitter user chimed in and, unlike Van Ness, listed his sources:
This is completely false. Here’s why.
There has been decades of research on the immense physical advantages males have over females, and transwomen are almost always typical males with no sex development disorder.
The strength difference between male and female bodies is vast.…

As of this writing, it is unclear if Dax Sheppard will be canceled for even broaching the subject. My money is on an apology, a sizable check to a non-profit, and something along the lines of telling people he's going to "educate" himself.
