On Wednesday Joe Biden was confronted by a bearded rabbi at a fundraising event in Minnesota who demanded a ceasefire in Gaza. This left the president claiming he had asked for a “pause.”

It’s unclear whether the bearded rabbi is trans as the Daily Mail claims the individual deliberately avoids answering that. But “shim” sounds like a woman in the video.

If it looks like a duck but doesn't talk like a duck, is it a duck?

The heckler interrupted the president during a speech, identified “shimself” as a rabbi, and demanded the president “call for a ceasefire” immediately.

Biden responded by saying he wanted a pause in fighting “to get the prisoners out” of Gaza.

“As a rabbi, I need you to call for a ceasefire right now,” Rabbi Jessica Rosenberg said.

Biden responded: “I think we need a pause. A pause means "give time to get the prisoners out,” adding that he understood the demonstrator's emotions but that it was an "incredibly complicated" situation.

Rosenberg was subsequently removed from the event.

According to the Daily Mail, Rosenberg is “a Reconstructionist rabbi born, raised, and based in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs” and became a “rabbi in order to learn our people's diverse and nuanced histories, and create spaces, ritual, and organizing that helps transform our relationship to past, present and future."

Rosenberg self-describes as a “queer Jewish woman obsessed with Jewish history.”

Okay, now Rosenberg claims to be a woman. The case is still open.

As Rosenberg was removed, “shim” chanted: “Ceasefire now.”

Reconstructionist Judaism is a “politically and religiously progressive Jewish movement that is the smallest and youngest of the so-called “big four” American Jewish denominations.”

"She is speaking on behalf of thousands of American Jews who say Not In Our Name! We refuse to allow a genocide to be carried out in our names," Jewish Voices for Peace wrote in an X post. "Ceasefire Now to save lives!"

According to Newsweek, there have been a growing number of voices calling for a ceasefire. But Western leaders have been pushing for "humanitarian pauses" for short periods to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

Unfortunately for the bearded rabbi, policy regarding international relations is not set by hecklers.

The white house has stopped short of calling for an outright ceasefire because that would benefit Hamas. But Biden calling for a “pause” may be one way he tries to appease progressives who do not like that Israel is defending itself.

On Thursday, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked John Kirby what a "pause" would mean for Israel.

"As you push the Israelis for humanitarian pauses, are they just supposed to sit back and let Hamas attack them and attack them and attack them and not fight back?" Doocy asked.

Rather than actually answer the question, Kirby decided to dance around it and say that the Biden administration has been "crystal clear that Israel has the right to defend themselves,"

"So a pause means they can still shoot back?" Doocy asked.

"My goodness, Peter! We give them security assistance almost every day. But do we advocate pauses by both sides here — temporary, localized — to be able to get Americans out, to be able to get aid in? You betcha we do."

Kirby clarified, "A temporary pause doesn't mean a general ceasefire or the war is over," Kirby said. "It means pause, only temporary, for a specific purpose."

One of the most irritating things about the people who call for a “ceasefire” is that they act as if Oct. 7 never happened. But I guess this is similar thinking to when a purple-haired liberal posts a petition on social media to stop war and they somehow think the countries will just work it out and hug.
