UMass Liberals Respond to 'Racist' Harambe Memes with... Even More Racism?
Remember all the outrage over Harambe? (read Dear #JusticeForHarambe Morons: No, I Don't Care About the Dead Gorilla...) It reared its ugly head once more, but this time in a different way. Residential assistants at UMass got fed up with all the Harambe memes and jokes on campus. And to be fair, haven't we all? They're a bit old hat. It's a dead gorilla. We get it. It died. Let's not beat a dead horse gorilla.
So the way UMass decided to deal with it? They did what any liberal would do... Accused the jokesters of racism.
In an email sent to residents of [University of Massachusetts]... resident assistants warned about the Harambe jokes being written on whiteboards. "I understand that social media has been popularizing Harambe in some crude way, which may appear as funny to groups of people. However, these comments are not only derogatory, but also microggressions to some UMass students," fret the RAs.UMass offers "defined residential communities" (DRP), where students of the same race can all live together. "We offer a DRP focusing on African-American heritage, and it's called the 'Harambe' floor," the letter notes.
"'Harambe' is actually a Swahili word, which stands for 'the point where people pull together.' The floor has been in existence for many years, so any negative remarks regarding Harambe will be seen as a direct attack to our campus' African-American community."
Before we dive into this dump truck of disaster, let's break down the details into separate, easily-digestible parts. We'll simplify it so much that even Harambe could understand it. Or the liberals who cried when he got shot. Either way. Why does it need simplifying? Mostly this situation is riddled with wrongness, so it's easy to get swept away in the irony.
First things first, UMass offers "defined residential communities" for certain racial groups... Or what's also known as segregation. You know, the thing Martin Luther King Jr hated. He also devoted his life to fighting against it. Remember? I don't think SJWs remember. But hey, what do I know. I'm just a racist. (see NYC School Fights 'Racism' by... Guilting and Segregating White Kids?!)
The name they decided to go with for the segregated housing? Harambe.
Yep. UMass designed a "black only" floor. Called Harambe. And the college's latest gripe? Not that there's segregation. Not that the black-only floor shares the name of a dead gorilla. And no, not even that RAs referenced a language that most of them didn't know existed until they got dreads and took an African Studies class last semester (language appropriation, anyone?). But good guesses.
Their outrage is in response to people sharing jokes about a dead gorilla. Who happened to have the same name as their racially-isolated collection of black people. Whom they grouped together and assumed would live in harmony "HARAMBE." UMass grouped these people together not based on their personalities or interests, mind you. But simply because they have the same skin color. Say, that sounds a bit like... racism!
By the way, the jokes? Yeah, those have nothing to do with race. The only people drawing a connection between the toddler-hating gorilla and black people... Are the liberals who segregated them and then named them Harambe. Oops.
Simmer down, liberals. Your racism is showing.
