Report: Trump Cuts Deal with Schumer/Pelosi on DACA. But NOT the Wall...
Apparently, Donald Trump had dinner with Pandertron Nancy Pelosi and Chuck (Rhymes With) Schumer where he cut a deal on DACA. No, he's not getting his big, beautiful wall as part of the deal.
Here's what we know so far:
First, the White House released a statement that did not mention any deal.Next the Schumer/Pelosi statement: "We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that's acceptable to both sides."
Then, from Sarah Sanders: "While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to."
Response from Schumer spokesman Matt House: "The President made clear he would continue pushing the wall, just not as part of this agreement."
Call me crazy, but DACA combined with alleged bulked up border security sounds a lot like what we've been calling "amnesty." The kind of amnesty Donald Trump campaigned against, though supported for years and years when he was donating money to Chuck Schumer. Sorry, these are just the facts. If you don't like them, I'm not sure what else to tell you.
Trump responded this morning.
Ok, so maybe Chuck and Nancy jumped the --
Wait, we have illegal immigrants serving in the military? Also, this Donald Trump sounds a lot different than "Vote for me to Make America Great Again" Donald Trump.
Now, so far the president has been solid on illegal immigration enforcement inside the USA (see BRAVO: ICE Arrests Hundreds of Violent Iraqi Immigrants. Deportations Pending and U.S. Deports Illegal Gang Members Back To El Salvador. But El Salvadorans Don’t Want Them). However, let's call it what it is. If this deal goes through, it would be a YUGE betrayal of Trump's supporters. And no, no matter how hard some of Trump's apologists in the conservative media may try, not one of them can say it's really Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell's fault. Try as they might.
Ahem.
Trump won because of three big issues that he said only he could lead on:
- Repealing ObamaCare, which he already hasn't led on.
- Tax reform, things aren't looking promising there.
- But the big one is building the wall and finally getting serious about illegal immigration. NOT to cut a deal on the exact thing conservatives have been fighting for the past decade, let alone cut a deal with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi to get there.
But here we are. Just calling as we see it.
