Poll: After Year of Joe Biden Incompetence, Voters Show Huge Shift Towards Republicans
After the year Democrats have had, I am actually surprised anyone is willing to claim the party as their own. The Democratic Party, headed up by the Biden Administration, has managed to push inflation to the highest levels seen in decades, squander the work of service members in Afghanistan, and attempt to cram down authoritarian dictates on the American people. Parents have begun to turn against Critical Race Theory—an indoctrination program overwhelmingly championed by Democrats—leading to the election of Glenn Youngkin in Virginia. And this doesn’t even cover all of the idiocy that has ensued since Biden was elected to office.
But the American people are reacting, and their reaction to Democratic policies destroying the nation is to leave it. A recent Gallup poll shows that the parties Americans are identifying with have swung, and it’s great news for the Republican party.
In the first quarter of 2021, 49% of Americans identified as Democrats or Democrat-leaning, with only 40% saying they identified as Republican or Republican-leaning. Fast-forward to the present, and at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, only 42% of Americans identified with the Democratic Party, with 47% identifying with the Republican party. That’s a total shift of 14 points!
Gallup reports that “[t]hese results are based on aggregated data from all U.S. Gallup telephone surveys in 2021, which included interviews with more than 12,000 randomly sampled U.S. adults.”
Republicans have not held a five-point lead since 1995, at which point they took control of the House for the first time since the 1950s, says Gallup.
These are good numbers, especially as Biden’s approval numbers continue to crater. With midterm elections just around the corner and Democratic politicians in Congress announcing retirements left and right, I’m hopeful for November, but I also don’t underestimate the ability of politicians to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. My fingers are crossed, though.
