In a move that should surprise no one, Republican senators joined the Democratic majority to forward a gun control bill. Fourteen Republicans to be exact. The bill is predicted to pass before the July 4 recess, when it will be sent over the Democrat-controlled House and easily passed.

The bill is a giant mess of garbage. Certainly, you already had that thought in the back of your head, but just how rubbish is the bill?

Well, buried beneath layers of legalese and various references to outside laws, the bill does two things extremely well. First, like many pieces of legislation, it manages to burn through billions of your taxpayer dollars. A few hundred million here and a billion and a half there--Medicaid expansion, FBI funding, and grants to the Department of Education. But it also manages to stomp all over your second amendment rights, as only a good gun-grabber bill can.

Again, buried underneath the legalese and convoluted passages that seemingly repeat the same few sentences ad nauseum, the bill lays out a basic outline for red flag laws it wishes the states to adopt and provides funding to the states so they can adopt the new red flag laws. It adds a waiting period, of between 3 and 10 days, and additional background investigations for people under 21 to purchase a firearm. And it expands the definition of a relationship for the purposes of the enforcement of the laws to include basically anyone one might have dated or had a fling with in the past.

As stated, it blows money and tramples on your rights. And fourteen Republican senators gave the green light for this legislation.
