WATCH: RFK Jr. Switches To Independent For Presidential Run, But Which Candidate Does he Hurt?
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced yesterday that he is dropping his presidential bid for the 2024 race in the Democratic Party and will now run as an independent. He also suggested that the political divisions were “deliberately orchestrated.”
This news comes after Kennedy was unsuccessful in forcing the Democratic Party and Biden into holding debates.
But will this hurt Trump or Biden more? Today’s show breaks that down.
According to CNN, the last time a third-party candidate had as much support as Kennedy was when Ross Perot ran in the 1996 cycle. And that Kennedy’s independent run would hurt Republicans more than Democrats as his numbers are higher among Republicans.
Kennedy has some more views that lean in the conservative direction.
He was against mask mandates, he is pro-abortion but supports a ban after the first trimester, and he is against transgender surgeries for minors.
But he does have some liberal views as well.
“The Kennedys need another relative in the white house like they need another hole in their head,” Crowder said.
He supports increased environmental regulations to fight climate change, he still believes racism is holding back Black regulations, and he would sign an assault weapons ban.
"The two-party system is flawed. But would you rather have a parliamentary system where different parties can form this weird coalition?" Crowder said.
For example, Trudeau was elected even though he got only 32.2 percent of the popular vote. Germany elected its leader with 25.7 percent.
“We are the longest-standing constitutional republic in the world,” Crowder said.
At least with a two-party system, you have someone who represents about half of America. In Germany, you can have someone who represents some 25 percent of the population.
"We have kept the same [system] even though it is flawed. You had the wigs that turned into the Republican Party. You need to swap out a party with another party. Not have three," Crowder said.
