Richard Dreyfuss Wants To Do Away With Second Amendment...
It's sad that when there is a tragedy like a shooting, and before we can wait for any of the facts to come in, we have to wade through leftist comments already trying to exploit it. Seriously, journalists at Buzzfeed waited all of a ten second before politicizing it.
Then you have idiotic comments like this from actor Richard Dreyfuss. Mind you, this was before the shooting, but leftists have been trotting it back out in light of the recent tragedy (well, one does), so you can imagine what his opinion would be now.
What article of the Constitution would you rewrite? The Second Amendment. It’s the only Amendment that’s obscurely written, and I would have made it clear. I would have said “This is for establishing militia and everyone has the right to participate in that militia, and you can have a gun if you participate in that militia.” We have actually divided on this issue so badly that we have two groups that absolutely hate each other. One group says no guns even if some guy has a knife to my child’s throat and the NRA people say give me a semiautomatic missile or I’ll kill you. This is absolutely a gun culture, and a car culture, and no one would let anyone behind the wheel of a car without being trained in its use, so why can’t we have that?
1. The NRA doesn't support semiautomatic missiles. I don't even know if there's such thing as a semi-automatic missile. I don't think there's any missile in the world that requires no prep or loading, but a mere pulling of a trigger. Keep in mind, my crazy anti-gun-leftist-speak is a little rusty.
2. The NRA DOES support training people in gun use. As a matter of fact, it's a big part of what they do. You know who doesn't train people in firearms safety? Hollywood. And no, Scarlett Johanson firing off a couple of blanks in prep for Avengers 3 doesn't count.
3. Read the second amendment before commenting as though you've read the second amendment. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." See that other part? The right of the people. Expressly outlined. They clarified that the people are the ones given the right to bear arms, in order to form a militia whenever appropriate. If you think that "the militia" is no longer relevant because of the United States military, well you don't understand why the 2nd amendment was written in the first place. It couldn't be more clearly written.
3. You're an idiot.
