If nothing else in his life, at least Ricky Gervais will go down as the man who destroyed the Golden Globes. Or, allegedly destroyed. In 2020, he turned them into an ironic joke where the only thing funny was Gervais taking the piss out of them. In 2021, NBC decided all of a sudden that the Hollywood Foreign Press wasn't diverse enough and refuse to air the show. Then in 2022, the Hollywood Foreign Press decided that instead of airing the awards, they would just tweet out the winners. That was yesterday. No one cared.

Prior to yesterday, a reporter for The Sun cared. But just enough to get Gervais' opinion on not only the Globes but award shows and celebrities in general. HINT: Celebrities? Gervais isn't much of a fan.

"People just got sick of it, just got sick of virtue signaling. And they were like a beacon to aim their wrath at."

"The people with nothing became tired of being lectured by people who had everything. People are sick of virtue signaling. They think: Why are you lecturing me? You’re going to an awards ceremony in a limo? And you’re telling me to recycle?"

Gervais is currently doing press for the final season of his Netflix show, "After Life." Gervais plays a widower and a reporter in a dark comedy that is a lot more dark than it is comedy. It's also brilliant.
