Ricky Gervais Tackles Outrage Towards New Comedy Special, Theory Netflix's Anti-Woke Memo Was All About Him
Ricky Gervais has a comedy special SuperNature debuting on Netflix tomorrow, May 24. On May 13, Netflix sent a memo to woke employees that if you're easily triggered by comedy and opinions, it might not be the company for you. And Sam Roberts, who saw a preview of SuperNature, has a theory: the memo was all about Ricky Gervais.
Ricky Gervais Doesn't Think His New Netflix Special is Controversialyoutu.be
Roberts isn't the only one who thinks so. Whether or not this blue checkmark lib has an inside scoop or is just making an educated guess, that's for you to decide: "Word is that Netflix sat on it for months because of how virulently transphobic it is—worse than Chappelle—but are releasing it anyway for fear of right-wing backlash."

Ricky Gervais is very Ricky Gervais about the ordeal. Cancel culture outrage is stupid. Smart people, like the people in the audience, know what jokes are. And for the few who don't, he starts off the special explaining jokes slow enough for people to understand.
Ricky's criticism of how the outrage starts is timely. More often than not, it's a handful of wankers on Twitter having the same dumb opinion. The newspapers (or websites) pick up on that and write articles about massive outrages over jokes or something that was said. We literally saw that twice over the past 48-hours with Dave Chappelle and Travis Barker. Hecklers have become newsroom editors. In the case of the Chappelle controversy, hecklers with less than 1800 Twitter followers divided among four of them.
Is Ricky Gervais' new special as offensive/triggering/promlematic/-ist/-phobic as people are assuming? If those words mean anything to you, probably. The rest of us will be laughing to hard to care.
