America's Governor Ron DeSantis has declared no more local mask mandates in Florida. If YOU want to wear a mask, God bless. But you can't force other people to refuse service to people who don't. Some local school boards are trying to step to him and say they are going to mandate kids wear masks anyway. So, DeSantis says if they do, they won't be getting paid.

With respect to enforcing any financial consequences for non-compliance of state law regarding these rules and ultimately the rights of parents to make decisions about their children's education and health care decisions, it would be the goal of the State Board of Education to narrowly tailor any financial consequences to the offense committed. For example, the State Board of Education could move to withhold the salary of the district superintendent or school board members, as a narrowly tailored means to address the decision-makers who led to the violation of law.

To be clear, this is a post about politics and NOT a post about science. Or, "the science." Facebook has declared "the science" is whatever the CDC says it is. The same CDC that has caved to political pressure SPECIFICALLY when it comes to schools. Not to mention, the "science" behind their current mask recommendation has been called into question in two different instances. Joe Biden's White House, for its part, doesn't know the NIH's ass from the public health officials' elbow. Plus what's his face with the mustache from the NIH just said their reasoning for masking up your kids again isn't based on anything peer-reviewed as much as it's anecdotal and data-free. So ... yeah. "The science."

Politically speaking, DeSantis' threat reminds me of Ronald Reagan vs. the air traffic controllers. Oldheads know this story. Reagan wasn't a full year into his presidency when the air traffic controllers went on strike, crippling air travel. Reagan said go back to work. The union said no. Reagan said, "You're fired." All 11,000+ of them. New air traffic controllers were hired and the union was busted. It's considered to be when Ronald Reagan became "Ronald Reagan."

If DeSantis has the grapefruits to follow through on his threat, he'll be a hero to parents throughout the country. Parents already hate their school administrations after seventeen months (plus fifteen days) after seeing how little the officials care about their children. Joe Biden has made it clear he only cares about the teachers' unions that give him lots of money. Parents need someone who is on THEIR side and the side of their children.

Then if you take the salary (paid for by school taxes) and give it BACK to the parents so they can send their kids to a school not enforcing mandates, we have a pilot program for a school voucher system. School choice is an issue supported by voters of all races and demographics.

From a political standpoint, it's a ballsy move. Science-wise, it depends on what the federal government deems is "the science" this week.
