Samantha Bee is Having a Sponsor and Ratings Problem
Loathe though I am to celebrate the misfortune of other people, it's hard not to do a little happy dance to the news Samantha Bee's ratings and sponsors are starting to give her the queen's one-hand wave. From FoxNews:
Samantha Bee lost Autotrader and State Farm as sponsors of her TBS show following her vulgar comment about Ivanka Trump, and the host reportedly cannot afford to lose any others due to her low ratings.“Full Frontal” ratings had dropped 34 percent among adults ages 18-49, while her ratings among millennials ages 18-34 were down 47 percent versus 2017, according to Nielsen data. In total, Bee’s show was down 29 percent “year over year,” The Wrap reported. “Full Frontal” is currently in its third season.
Maybe Bee thought the shock and awe tactics would give her paltry ratings a boost. I'm not sure that's working out the way she thought it would. She is having some shockingly awful news. AutoTrader is gone, now State Farm. Losing sponsors while hemorrhaging ratings isn't the best way to start one's weekend. Which is looking, like her show, feckless.
This is the free market doing its thing. TBS decided to keep Samantha Bee. Not surprising when you consider Bee's little rant was a scripted number. Approved at multiple levels, no doubt. TBS is free to do what it will, but then so are audience members. Sponsors have the right to do business with whom they like, and whom they don't. In this case, they're opting not to sign more papers with a feckless dumbass. Read also S.E. Cupp Wrecks Samantha Bee: Pure Unadulterated Hatred.
And that's the way the c*** cookie crumbles.
