'It's going to be a super spreader': San Francisco BDSM festival still scheduled amid monkeypox fears
When COVID hit, the government went full authoritarian. They locked down businesses, put people out of work, restricted movement, and destroyed our entire economy--something for which we are still paying for as Biden's administration dutifully destroys our country with great efficiency. With monkeypox cases on the rise, primarily among homosexual men--but don't let the LGBTQ+ lobby or any of their allies in the media hear you say it--the government would love nothing more than to exercise that tyrannical muscle.
Luckily, they haven't. But where we didn't really know the best way to protect people from COVID, we do know how to protect people (read gay people) from monkeypox: Quit screwing a bunch of random dudes. Seems like a pretty easy rule to follow. Or rather, to me it does. It doesn't seem like an easy rule to follow for the gays, though.
In San Francisco, the LGBTQ+ lobby is so loathe to abstain from engaging in copious amounts of anonymous sex with as many men as possible that they aren't even going to reschedule their annual queer BDSM festival.
The East Bay Times describes the event thusly:
"Officially called Up Your Alley, this weekend’s festival is the smaller, more Bay Area-centric cousin to the internationally known Folsom Street Fair in September, which attracts upwards of 75,000 people from around the world. Spanning four blocks, Dore Alley includes a fair Sunday that features rope performances, go-go dancing and vendors selling a wide array of sex toys. Many clubs also plan to host side events throughout the weekend."
Do you want monkeypox? Because that sounds like how you get monkeypox.
Yeah, it sounds like the exact kind of place one wouldn't want to be at if they were trying to avoid an effectively sexually transmitted disease spreading amongst the gay male population. But don't worry! The San Francisco AIDS Foundation knows how to stay safe.
"There’s never been a better time to dress from top to bottom in latex or leather. Keeping your skin covered is a sure-fire way to prevent exposures to monkeypox.”
So, that sounds like solid advice. I don't think Tony Fauci himself could have done better.
A regular attendee of the festival who spoke to the East Bay Times did say he's staying home this year. "It's going to be a super spreader event," he explained.
Yeah... Probably.
Whatever. Do what you like, guys. Just don't come anywhere near the rest of us because we don't want monkeypox. Also, you're not allowed to complain when it hits you.
