The conversation regarding transgender individuals has changed recently. Much of the focus has been on transgender athletes effectively robbing biological females of opportunities. There’s also plenty to be said of transgenders in the professional sphere doing the same. But the conversation has migrated away from the need to keep women and young girls safe in areas traditionally segregated by sex.

In Oregon, however, the conversation has—in the immortal words of Jen Psaki—circled back, and with the institution of new policies regarding transgender students in schools, some students are speaking up.

One girl spoke about her experience with the new policy, which allows any student, staff, or visitor to use whatever bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity. If you can’t see how this could go sideways, just listen to her explain it.

“Somebody can take advantage of this and be a perfectly straight male or female that takes advantage of it and uses the opposite bathroom which could cause rapes and assaults. […] I’ve watched guys just walk into the girls’ bathroom while I’m in there—pretty much just walk in, looks at us, and either uses the bathroom or just stands there for a minute and walks right back out.”

Now, I’m pretty sure there have been people talking about the risk of people abusing these kinds of policies. We also have some pretty serious incidents that have occurred in schools with similar policies, incidents in which the boy did far more than look around.

Supposedly, this young woman’s concerns have been completely ignored, and in a place like Oregon—where leftist policies continue to destroy the lives of its inhabitants—that isn’t surprising.

Though the attention has been drawn away from this issue in recent weeks in favor of news about Musk’s purchase of Twitter and the imminent overturning of Roe v. Wade, it’s important we remain just as focused on issues such as this. The safety of our children is in jeopardy so long as these policies are allowed to continue.
