Seattle officials realize defunding the police was a mistake, pass a resolution attempting to fix that
Sooner or later, the left always eats its own words. So, while the “compassionate” thing used to be removing the police from society, that could not have been further from the truth. And while anyone with a fraction of a brain could have told you that defunding the police won’t save lives or decrease crime, the City of Seattle had to learn that the hard way.
Seattle's public safety committee has passed a resolution that “reverses any prior commitment or pledge by past councils to defund or abolish the police.”
Seattle Councilmember Rob Saka introduced a resolution to end the city's failed defund the police experiment @CMRobSaka said Resolution 32167 "...reverses any prior commitment or pledge by past councils to defund or abolish the police. We know that these statements were… pic.twitter.com/LTvtEfSRS7

According to The Post Millennial:
The resolution recognizes work that has been done to improve public safety, including appreciation for first responders, reversing "defund" commitments, progress on a consent decree, police accountability, and a more diversified public safety response.
Saka said during the committee meeting, "This resolution reverses any prior commitment or pledge by past councils to defund or abolish the police. We know that these statements were routinely cited by departing police personnel as a reason for leaving. We also know that they are very divisive."
Councilmember Maritza Rivera said that her constituents want to see council members "take a stance against the defund rhetoric that we’ve seen in the past in this city.”
It only took the city five years to almost fix this, but this is why we have the saying, “better late than never.” Nonetheless, the people of Seattle deserved so much better, and the amount of damage felt by this will not end overnight.
Even if George Floyd’s death was exactly how the left pretends it was, this had nothing to do with Seattle, and its absurd police departments were defunded as a result of this.
We went from the “Summer of Love” to apologizing for all of this and to call that unsurprising would be an understatement.
This exchange actually happened on CNN about #CHAZ.......
Chris Cuomo: How long do you think Seattle in those few blocks looks like this?
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan (D): I don't know. We could have the summer of love! pic.twitter.com/ApIDfMN9RD

This is the type of insanity we dealt with, and it's disgusting how they tried to gaslight the masses that condoning this was the morally permissible thing to do. Days after this was aired, two teenagers were shot as part of the "Summer of Love," and one died. Those statements were infuriating at the time and it remains a reminder as to how we got to where we are today.
Nonethless, the media is far less relevant than when that interview aired, and that is exactly why it is no longer politically incorrect to fund the police department. Former Mayor Durkan did not get enough backlash, and she still deserves to be mocked into oblivion, as her words encouraged some of the worst behavior Seattle has ever seen.
