It turns out that when you pay people to not work and do drugs all day - you get the zombie apocalypse known as San Francisco.

But unless you plan on being a drug-addicted degenerate who contributes nothing to society, that does not tend to be popular among voters - no matter how woke you are.

San Francisco is definitely home to some of the most progressive members of this country. But what happens when these sorts of people start running things - is that it becomes home to people who are either dirt-poor or tech-boy-rich. You must either be a drug addict on welfare, or someone making millions working for a tech startup. And the middle class ends up having the most trouble getting by.

But most people are just your average American. Most people are not drug-addicted on welfare and most people don’t work for Google. This is why 60 percent of residents voted to add a drug screening requirement for welfare recipients.

According to ABC 33/40:

San Francisco voters on Super Tuesday approved a pair of local public safety measures, apparently fed up with the level of crime, drug use and homelessness in their city.

Both measures – one that empowers police and another that adds drug screening for welfare recipients – passed with around 60% of the vote.

And both were pushed by the city’s centrist Democratic mayor, London Breed.

I would definitely not call Breed a “centrist” but that is beside the point right now. Measure E only tests those whom the city believes or "reasonably suspects are dependent on illegal drugs." It's unclear how much this will be enforced but we will just have to wait and see.

The San Francisco Chronicle on Wednesday called it a political win for the mayor, who is in a tough fight for reelection. And the newspaper’s website featured a big, bold headline: “Progressivism is out – for now.”

“San Francisco voters understand and want changes around public safety and the homeless crisis and the drug crisis,” said Tom Wolf, a drug recovery advocate and San Francisco native. “And it's also a rebuke of kind of the progressive policy that we've been following for the last eight years, 10 years in San Francisco or so.”

“This is a deep blue versus light blue situation,” he said of the ideological fight.

But Tuesday was a good day for the “light blue” side, he said.

“We took a big step back towards the center, and it was all rooted in public safety,” Wolf said.

This is the problem with Progressives. Their entire political platform is based on identity politics- that is why it physically hurts to admit that their ideology is asinine. This is likely why it took them this long to pass a “light blue” policy, whatever that even means.

But anyone with half a brain knows that paying drug addicts to literally shoot up drugs on the street will do nothing to help the average person or family in the City by the Bay. But because they must be beholden to their ideology that bad, they helped turn the Paris of the West to succumb to conditions the third world could never accomplish.

Measure E will reduce police paperwork to free up officers for work on the streets. It allows for more police pursuits and for increased surveillance.

I doubt any of that will make much of a difference since the issue has nothing to do with police paperwork or a lack of surveillance. But I understand that voters thought this was better than doing nothing at all. Although, I am not too convinced.

I am not sure what "increased surveillance" entails but it's a weird coincidence that we commonly see progressive areas turn into the Walking Dead due to asinine policies - and then the people responsible for creating such a dystopian nightmare start increasing surveillance on law-abiding citizens. Weird how that always seems to happen.
