Honestly, I forgot The Simpsons was even on. I grew up with it since The Tracey Ullman Show. But the last laugh-out-loud episode I remember was when they made fun of the 2008 primaries. The cartoon only pops up on the radar when it makes the news for silly woke reasons. It started with some guy making a movie about Apu that scared Hank Azaria away from voicing Apu. Then during the great pandering of 2020, producers said that white voice actors wouldn't voice non-white characters any more. You know, to cure racism and all that. The new voice of Dr. Hibbert has debuted, hence this being in the news again.

At least creator Matt Groening still thinks this is all dumb.

I actually didn't have a problem with the way we were doing it. All of our actors play dozens of characters each, it was never designed to exclude anyone. At a certain point it doesn't matter what you say. You're going to be attacked by whoever, you know?

We're not going out of our way to comfort bigots. On the other hand, if you do any kind of gesture and people perceive a weakness, you'll be criticised.

To quote Lisa Simpson when the show had the courage to laugh this crap off, "What can you do?" These past two weeks have made it clear just how much bullying the social left does in Hollywood. There are more important battles than worrying about a cartoon that is a decade past its prime.

It's just a shame, though, because for a while, the show was laugh-out-loud funny. A show that has been on since the '80s (I had a Bart Simpson shirt in junior high; I'm in my 40s now) is bound to have episodes that aren't acceptable in 2021's permaoffended climate. As more gets deleted because of randos complaining about it on Twitter, fewer people will know just how brilliant the show was.
