FLASHBACK: Single Payer Healthcare BANNED Obese Patients from Surgery...
This post is from last year, but it's topical with the health care debate going on and recent death of Charlie Gard. It also points out the hypocrisy of leftists. All the complaining about fat shaming and being obese is a choice (see Wonder Woman is ‘FAT SHAMING!’ By Promoting Health Foods and Lena Dunham Loses Weight. Leftists ‘Body Shame’ Her for NOT Being Fat)? Guess who's one of the first to get the axe when the government has to ration health care under single payer:
Hospital leaders in North Yorkshire said that patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above – as well as smokers – will be barred from most surgery for up to a year amid increasingly desperate measures to plug a funding black hole. The restrictions will apply to standard hip and knee operations. The decision, described by the Royal College of Surgeons as the “most severe the modern NHS has ever seen”, led to warnings that other trusts will soon be forced to follow suit and rationing will become the norm if the current funding crisis continues.
Chris Hopson, the head of NHS Providers, which represents acute care, ambulance and community services, said: “I think we are going to see more and more decisions like this."
I think we are going to see more and more decisions like this.
Think about this. The left will tell you it is totally healthy to be fat. It's a choice, really, and only haters will tell you otherwise. But when corners need to be cut because of the HEALTH CARE SYSTEM THE LEFT SWEARS BY, sorry fatty. You're out of luck. Go cry in a box of donuts.
Now, lest someone snark saying "Well, fat people deserve to be cut out of healthcare funding, because they're fat, LOL!" congratulations for falling into the pit. Because today it's fat people, tomorrow it's heavy smokers. Next it's people who consume alcohol regularly. Or irregularly. Then it'll be pot-smokers. Or people who engage in "dangerous" pursuits (as defined by government). It'll start with stunt driving. Then horse-back riding. Eating red meat. Or pick your activity which isn't 100% safe/healthy. Do you want to be kicked out of healthcare because you dared live a lifestyle the GOVERNMENT objected to?
When the government pays for your healthcare, the government decides what to pay and what not to pay. Yes, it's a slippery slope. Yes, obese people aren't healthy. But don't be fooled, you likely don't lead a perfectly healthy life (according to the government) either. You could be next.
