SO MUCH WINNING! NATO Countries to Step Up After Donald Trump's Stern Lecture
All this winning. It's almost unbearable after years of so much bending over backwards to appease wimps. Well no more. After Trump delivered a thorough spanking to NATO's freeloaders for not paying their fair share, those NATO countries are now getting ready to PAY UP.
Trump pressed members of the 69-year-old alliance to meet their commitment of spending 2 percent of their gross domestic products on defense by 2024. He said Thursday that the pressure he put on the nations has resulted in a possible increase of $40 billion in defense spending.“The United States was not being treated fairly, but now we are,” Trump said. “I believe in NATO."
French President Macron said "Nuh uh, we were always going to pay, Trump's just taking credit for something that we were totally, 100% going to do without him telling us to do it! Cross my heart and hope not to get raped by a Muslim migrant!"
Macron said the agreement put out Wednesday "confirms the goal of 2 percent by 2024. That's all."Macron also denied reports that Trump threatened to withdraw the United States from the NATO military alliance amid the funding dispute.
Now it's becoming a playground skirmish over he said, she said. Pardon me if I put a little more faith into Trump's word over Macron's. NATO countries have been paying less than their minimum for years, for which Trump wagged a totally normal sized finger at them. Now those NATO countries are pinky-swearing they were always going to pay their fair share. Eventually.
Yesterday all of the leftist media lamented the tone of Trump's words to NATO. Some media shills even suggested Trump's spanking of NATO was a double-secret wink to Putin. Despite Trump's lecture to NATO in no way served Putin.
Maybe, just maybe, America standing up for itself and its values is a good thing. Maybe it's not wrong for Trump to insist America be treated fairly on the world stage. And not treated as Daddy Warbucks, then shamed for being successful.
