If only we had a current example of socialism's crapness in action... Kidding of course. Facing a bread shortage that is spawning massive lines and souring the national mood, the Venezuelan government is responding this week by detaining bakers and seizing establishments.

[The government] charged four people and seized two bakeries ... for breaking a number of rules, including selling overpriced bread.

In a statement, the government said the bakers had been selling underweight bread and were using price-regulated flour to illegally make specialty items, like sweet rolls and croissants. The government said bakeries are only allowed to produce French bread and white loaves.

Despite being rich in natural resources (like the largest oil reserves in the world), the country has been short on food for a while now (see Dying Venezuelans Raid Stores for Food and Venezuela Opens Borders With Colombia. So Venezuelans Can Finally Eat...). I'm sure you can guess why. It starts with an "s" and ends with a "hitty socialism."

The worst part is the government's response, albeit predictable. Venezuelans are forced to rely on government for everything, including food. In turn, the government mandates who can sell what for how much. In this case, the bakeries' crime was selling baked goods. That the government didn't approve of.

That be the socialist circle of suffering suck. That alliteration, though. Behold its glory.

In short, Venezuela is currently in crisis mode because of government overreach. But notice their solution wasn't to rein in the cause of their poverty, misery, and substandard lifestyles. No, Venezuela's solution was to employ MOAR government. Which is why issues in this socialist "utopia" have gotten significantly worse the more the government tries to "help." Meanwhile, American leftists ignore all this evidence whilst heaping praise onto socialists worldwide. Believing you too stupid to use the internet.

"Socialism is the greatest!" - said no one from socialist countries, ever. Well, besides Fidel Castro and his compadres. But you know what they say about them:

Incidentally, the leaders of socialism are often rich beyond the wildest dreams of the poor citizens they oppress. But you're not supposed to talk about that.
