Like most woke companies, Disney does not know how to “read the room.”

“The Marvels” had the lowest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe opening in franchise history. You can decide for yourself why it played out that way.

Coincidentally, they are now feminizing a movie franchise that you would assume is typically targeted toward men.

CNN host Kristie Lu Stout interviewed Pakistan-born, Canadian filmmaker Obaid-Chinoy about her upcoming projects, including a new Star Wars film that had recently been announced at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event in London.

Stout touted Obaid-Chinoy as the ‘first woman and the first person of color to direct a Star Wars film" that will reportedly be released in 2026.

‘I’m very thrilled about the project because I think what we’re about to create is something very special,’ Obaid-Chinoy told Stout. ‘We’re in 2024 now, and I think it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape the story in a galaxy far, far away.’”

In other words, Disney has decided to pull Star Wars off of life support as rainbow lightsabers that are intended to fight the patriarchy might be coming to a theater near you.

Rather than watch South Park and learn what NOT to do, they RAN with it and took it as ADVICE on what TO DO.

It is unclear why now is “the time” for a woman to shape the franchise and why next year is not "the time." It is also not clear what a “woman” even is or if that includes men. But it is clear that they have had a change of heart since they fired Gina Carano since they are now pretending they care about women.

One thing that might actually help the franchise is if they start hiring producers based on their qualifications rather than the color of their skin or gender. But that might be asking too much of them.

A man created Star Wars and turned that franchise into the success it once was before Disney destroyed it. Sounds like the director might just be a tiny bit jealous of his work since she is obviously trying to destroy it.

She did say her goal is to “make men uncomfortable.”

Why on earth would you prioritize making your target audience feel like that? That is logically equivalent to Crest saying they want to make people who have teeth feel uncomfortable brushing. That is how much sense all of that makes and it is not what you would call a “good marketing campaign.”

Typically, when a director says the goal is to make audience members "uncomfortable" that usually comes from a movie franchise like Saw. But I guess Disney has decided to run with it and can't stop. In fact, they won't stop.

“The Marvels” generated about $47 million for opening weekend. I'm guessing this will gross about half of that. But we will have to wait until 2026 to see if my prediction comes to fruition.
