Starbucks Prohibits Employees from Showing BLM Support
Virtue signaling on social media is one thing. Carrying it out into the real world, that's a different story. Starbucks, which was forced to close its doors along with other businesses during the pointless, damaging, insane shutdown, has recently lost billions of dollars and is closing 400 stores. That's relevant to the story here. A memo obtained by BuzzFeed News from Starbucks to its employees shows the coffee chain isn't interested in employees showing support for Black Lives Matter. Which is kind of a pivot considering Starbucks is totally fine showing gay pride all day, every day, especially in June. It's also funny after coming right after posting all the social justicy gobbledegook for woke points. Like this:
The path forward requires open and honest conversations about racial injustices. On Saturday, Starbucks partners ca… https://t.co/5AJx7xiVTi— Starbucks Coffee (@Starbucks Coffee) 1591057483.0
No matter. If you want to wear a BLM t-shirt, a pin, or whatever kind of flare BLM provides, you cannot if you're working behind the Starbucks bean counter. See what I did there?
In response, management, according to the memo from last week, argued that wearing clothing and accessories highlighting Black Lives Matter could be misunderstood and potentially incite violence. The bulletin pointed employees to a video, which has now been removed, in which its VP of inclusion and diversity explained that "agitators who misconstrue the fundamental principles" of the movement and could use them to "amplify divisiveness."
Huh. Interesting. So even Starbucks is admitting that Black Lives Matter support could be misconstrued. Perhaps that's because Black Lives Matter has now become a political weapon of sorts. Hold your rage for a second. MeToo was once a movement for change, but has also been transformed into a political weapon of sorts. The same can be said for Black Lives Matter. Of course black lives matter. Of course sexual harassment and assault are wrong. But the initial movements have been hijacked by political forces intent on doing harm.
Starbucks is trying to have its over-priced cake pop and eat it too. They've been more than happy to dance with the social justice warriors for at least a decade if not longer. They've not been shy about immigration, refugees, LGBT anything, or guns. Starbucks is the same business that wanted to have open conversations about race, remember?
Well here they are. 400 stores about to close. About $3.2 Billion with a B short on last quarter's ledgers. And all of a sudden, they don't want to enter the political fray in real life.
Now Starbucks finds itself between a rock and a stinky homeless person wanting to use the potty.
