Shooting Survivor Steve Scalise Wrecks Chuck Todd on Gun Control
With everything going on right now, NBC News is hungry for a Republican to come out for gun control. They saw Steve Scalise (see George Takei, MSNBC Trashed Steve Scalise. While He Was in Critical Condition and Steve Scalise Shooter is James T. Hodgkinson, a Socialist Bernie Lover…), and started licking their chops. Because someone who survived a shooting isn't going to be a huge fan of guns, right?
Wrong! Like, oh my God, how wrong you are. No matter how hard Chuck Todd tried to bait him, Scalise was ready.
Look, the Second Amendment really predates the Bill of Rights. Our Founding Fathers believed strongly in gun rights for citizens. Frankly, they thought it was an assumed right. They didn’t put it in the Constitution because they didn’t think it would ever be in jeopardy, but ultimately you saw attempts later on to take away gun rights, so they said it’s so important we’re going to make it one of the ten Bill of Rights, constitutional changes. And so it is a long history in our country to make sure that you protect the rights of citizens to bear arms. They’ve got a bill written already. And I mean, look, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi already said she wants it to be a slippery slope. She doesn’t want to stop at bump stocks. They want to go out and limit the rights of gun owners. And so I do think it’s it’s a uh little bit early for people to say they know what to do to fix this problem.
I think it’s dangerous for the concept that the federal government would have some kind of list of who has guns and what they have. Because you’ve seen that, by the way, in totalitarian countries.
I know, I know, it's shocking that someone who was shot with a gun wouldn't want to ban guns. Especially when the leftist who shot him probably considers himself anti-gun.
Kudos to Scalise for sticking to his guns. Pun intended. The left assumed Steve would be anti-gun after being shot because the left sees guns as murderers. Whereas Scalise sees murderers as murderers. The gun is just a weapon of choice.
No amount of laws or regulations will stop evil from existing in the world. But gun rights can allow everyday, law-abiding people to pick up a weapon and defend themselves against said evil (see Colorado Teachers Start Carrying Guns to Fight School Shootings and Thanks 2nd Amendment! 72 Yr Old Drops Violent Home Intruder). Worth it.
