Don't tell David Hogg. The Marjory Stoneman Douglass Commission has recommended teachers who want to be armed and have the proper training to be armed, should be. From the full report, excerpt from page 104 under "Guardian Program:"

School districts and charter schools should permit the most expansive use of the Guardian Program under existing law to allow personnel—who volunteer, are properly selected, thoroughly screened and extensively trained—to carry concealed firearms on campuses for self-protection and the protection of other staff and students. School districts and charter schools should not restrict the existing Guardian Program only to dedicated guardians, and all districts should expand the guardian eligibility to other school employees now permitted to be guardians.

Further, the Florida legislature should expand the Guardian Program to allow teachers who volunteer—in addition to those now authorized—who are properly selected, thoroughly screened and extensively trained to carry concealed firearms on campuses for selfprotection, and the protection of other staff and students in response to an active assailant incident.

Even knowing what we know about what went down both before, during and after the shooting, arming teachers who want to be armed and have the training to be armed, seems like a no-brainer. What with law enforcement failing the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas nearly every step of the way:

The recommendation to arm teachers now goes to Governor Rick Scott and Governor-elect Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislature. Hopefully, since it was ruled the police have NO RESPONSIBILITY to protect students, common sense will prevail and teachers will be allowed to lock and load. Of course, the teacher's union is against it, but maybe if the public can make itself heard...
