Stop me if you've heard this one before. A guy assaults someone on the streets of New York City (or any leftist city). Upon arrest, turns out the man has a list of priors and was still out on the streets.

Today's thug is Bui Van Phu. He was eating in a Bronx restaurant. He got up, put on a glove, sucker punched Jesus Cortes from behind, and then sat back down to eat as if nothing happened.

Cortes's sister tells the Daily News that Phu “'did a lot of harm to me and my family, putting us through this,' and that she'll never forgive him." God might, but that's up to God.

We don't know why Phu committed this unprovoked attack. But we do know that Phu fractured Cortes' skull. We also, upon getting arrested for the attack, know that Phu has been arrested at least thirteen times thanks to his gallery of mugshots on his sex offender profile.

Also, we know that he's a registered sex offender. Phu raped a seventeen-year-old at gunpoint in 1994 and was released from prison in 2019. At least six of his mugshots are from after he was released.

Bui Van Phu is being charged with attempted murder for this unprovoked attack. Unclear is if he has been released and is out on bail already. But this is New York City, so you play the odds.
