It appears that both Ron DeSantis and Tom Brady have won again! We should take a poll over who is more of a GOAT.

After Super Bowl 55, there were concerns that the lack of masks and social distancing would turn into a superspreading event for the coronavirus. Both Ron DeSantis and Tom Brady were even singled out and shamed for not wearing masks. People were mad at Dolly Parton too, but that was for non-'rona reasons.

Let's refresh your memory from a few weeks ago of what people were saying:

Turns out the experts may have been wrong about something else. At least, according to this USA Today article:

Hillsborough County health officials have determined that official events held around Super Bowl 55 resulted in 57 total COVID-19 cases, despite the thousands of fans who traveled to Tampa to attends the game and surrounding events.

In a press conference that was streamed on WFLA, a local NBC affiliate, Hillsborough County chief epidemiologist Michael Wiese said there were 53 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state of Florida linked to the Super Bowl, while four out-of-state cases were tracked to the event.

However, there WAS an increase in positive cases. Also, there is a chance a sciencey "fact" checker used by Facebook may come along and claim the USA Today and the chief epidemiologist are both misleading. I'll let you know if that happens. For now, the expected Super Bowl "surge" seems to be similar to the alleged nonexistent surge post-holidays.

Let me be clear. I am in no way advocating for you to flaut the CDC guidelines all willy-nilly. Here they are in case you need to brush up. I am however saying that it's almost 365 days after 15 days to flatten the curve. Goalposts have been moved repeatedly. There are people who still want to live in fear wearing as many masks as can fit on their face. If the over-cautious "experts" are miscalculating in their over-cautiousness what is going to be a superspreading event, we should all be happy when they turn out to be wrong.
