Desperate reporters attempt to get new "Superman" director to attack Donald Trump, but he refuses the bait
Few superheroes have been as politicized in comic books as Superman. Over the past few years, we've seen him renounce his American citizenship while he fights climate change and opposes common sense illegal immigration reform with a bisexual son. A new movie is coming out this summer, and entertainment journalismers are desperate for it to attack Donald Trump. Director James Gunn refuses to play along and take any of their bait.
At least, for now...
It's refreshing because, as ridiculous as teaser trailers and teaser trailers to teaser trailers are getting (we're looking at you, Fantastic Four), Gunn NAILED it with Superman. I still think of that solo guitar lick playing the classic theme from the '80s.
Here you go: the #Superman trailer. Krypto, take us home.

Reporters were asking the director about the upcoming movie. Or, to be more precise of language, reporters were using his movie to ask him about Donald Trump. "What about his version of Superman is right for the current cultural moment?"
The "cultural moment" is progressive slang for asking how this movie will bend the knee to a woke political agenda, and if it doesn't, why are you bothering making it? It's why there are next to no comedies in the theaters. Gunn went with a diplomatic answer.
In some ways, I would say it’s the right Superman because I don’t think he’s a part of the cultural moment. He’s a character that stands for something that is solid, for basic human morals, basic human integrity, the basic belief in protecting others the weak and being good to people and being honest. He stands for what I think of as the rules that don’t change.
Yes, but what about DEI? Progressives have been virtue signaling over what they call diversity, equity, and inclusion. Which, again, is just another excuse to bludgeon people with their agenda and guilt you from disagreeing with them. The American people are fed up with them doing so, hence reelecting Donald Trump in 2024. Indeed, Gunn has thoughts on the matter. Right? RIGHT?!
Gunn, who foolishly thought this was an interview about his movie, wasn't having it. I LOVE this answer.
I know what you’re saying. I understand your words, but I’ve been off working on stories for three years, and I just try to tell the best stories I possibly can, and that’s all I care about.
We’re just off trying to make the best movies we can in the best way we can,” he said. “No matter who is telling me who I’m supposed to put in my movie, for whatever reason, I don’t give a shit. I was always about creating the best story possible with the best characters possible. It was that way, you know, five years ago, and it’s that way today.
Here's the thing. We know for a fact that James Gunn, at least politically, agrees with the journalismers. He, granted, has dared to defend Chris Pratt every time progressives attack the actor for loving Jesus and America, too (now available as a shirt on CrowderShop.com). But 99.86% of the time, he has the same viewpoints as everyone else in Hollywood and has expressed them in the past.
It would have been really easy for him to pick up every premise that the journalismers were throwing down. Instead, the director decided that mayhaps it wasn't a good idea to alienate over half of America who might want to see his movie. And that, perish the thought, the movie could be a compelling story for an audience to enjoy and share with each other.
If there is a "cultural shift" happening in the entertainment industry, let this be it.
Also, Superman is the one character that I felt they've always gotten right in both movie and TV, the disappointing finale to Superman and Lois notwithstanding. It would suck if they started now.
