Justice Anthony Kennedy, thee swing voter on the Supreme Court, announced his retirement, to take effect on July 31st.

Justice Kennedy was appointed by Reagan and, as already stated, was the swing vote. Meaning he could sway the case one way or the other.

Donald Trump will now have to fill his seat with another judge. So we can finally move past the "But Gorsuch" meme onto "But Gorsuch and This Person" meme. At least that's something.

More big picture, though, who gets to appoint to the Supreme Court is one reason many people plugged their nose and pulled the lever for Donald Trump. Myself included. Trump Humpers, take a knee for a second and spare the MAGA claptrap. I'm praising your guy here, calm down.

Many of us knew Hillary Clinton would nominate judges who self-identified as blue-haired beluga whales. Judges who were just two sashays away from Mao Tse Tung. She even admitted as much. With the recent conservative victories handed down by the Supreme Court, by narrow victory margins, who sits on the bench matters. Rather a lot. And who gets to put those guys on the bench matters. Rather a lot.

No doubt, had Cankles swept her way into the White House, Gorsuch's current seat would be occupied by an oozing, leftist bog troll, praised by the likes of Planned Parenthood. The kind of judge who crossed their fingers behind their back while promising to uphold the Constitution. While at home, printing the Constitution on their toilet paper. Wadded up into thick balls for number twos.

Elections matter. Election outcomes matter. Obama appointed judges. America said no to Hillary and her appointing of judges. Now Trump gets to appoint judges. Here's hoping he sticks to the same list from which he pulled Gorsuch.
