Analyst fired, accused of 'child grooming' for using a March Madness bracket to teach kids math. Seriously.
As we are all aware, there is a fair amount of grooming going on in American public schools. But apparently, people are more concerned with "gambling" than, I don't know, men masquerading as scantily-clad women for your child's entertainment.
SuperBook analyst Taylor Mathis was fired for going to her sister's second-grade classroom and using a March Madness bracket to teach math. There was no actual gambling involved. Literally just math.
Mathis told Sports Handle, "We did the bracket for an hour and a half. We went around in a circle, and each kid had to say their name and an interesting fact. When it came to me and they asked me what my interesting fact was, I told them I was a sports reporter. I didn’t say one word about gambling. I told them I work with athletes and teams. They’re in second grade, they thought it was so cool."
"Then we picked teams. The extent of it was explaining what a 1-seed and a 16-seed means, and 5-seed and a 12-seed, and then we literally went through and picked teams, got to the championship — they picked Alabama — and then I told them I’d buy them a pizza party.”
A pizza party? The absolute horror.
Mathis's fatal error was posting a photo of herself with the class and bracket. Though this didn't draw negative social media attention, her boss at SuperBook got big mad. SuperBook apparently got an email from a gambling reform group accusing them and Mathis of child grooming. By teaching math.
Mathis had to delete the tweet and issue an apology, which she promptly did. But that unfortunately wasn't enough. Mathis later got an email informing her she was being let go from SuperBook. For teaching math.
We are truly in the upside-down. Someone can be smeared as a "child groomer" for a fun math exercise, but near-naked cross-dressing men can dance for children's entertainment with no problem. In fact, you're actually hateful if you don't want your child near these men. Just keep them away from those darn math problems.
