Busted: Largest Teachers’ Union in America Demands Social Media Censor Opposition to CRT
Another teachers’ union is out wielding its immense power to silence parents. The National Education Association (NEA), the largest teachers’ union in America, sent a letter to Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok demanding the tech giants to take action to censor the voices of critics of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and other moves within the public school system, reports the Post Millennial.
"Our schools are the center of communities in every corner of our nation. They should be a safe place for every single student, educator, and staff member to thrive and learn. And yet, online 'trends' and false information that have spread like wildfire throughout social media platforms - from stealing school property and hitting school staff, to conspiracy theories on curriculum and coronavirus protocols - have helped create a culture of fear and violence with educators as targets.”
In a move that has become a favorite of the left, NEA President Becky Pringle, who wrote the letter, caricatured parents as right-wing radicals too stupid to understand that K-12 students aren’t taught graduate-level CRT courses.
“[T]he alarming growth of a small but violent group of radicalized adults who falsely believe that graduate level courses about racism are being taught in K-12 public schools because of misinformation spread on social media.”
We know CRT isn’t explicitly taught in K-12 schools as a subject in itself, regardless of what this ignorant clod says. We also know, however, that its tenets are weaved throughout curricula across the country and in a myriad of courses. We have example after example after example of CRT being embedded in public school education.
The letter by the NEA is nothing new. The teachers’ unions have long thrown around their weight to quash voices of dissent. About one week before this letter was sent to social media companies, the National School Board Association (NSBA) wrote the now infamous letter characterizing concerned parents as domestic terrorists. That letter caused the FBI to create a new task force targeting those parents.
The NEA hopes for similar results, it seems, as they both celebrate the NSBA letter and the FBI’s actions against parents while demanding that tech companies do the bidding of the union.
“We applaud this [the FBI’s] effort and will support the U.S. government in its mission to protect our educators. But where is the urgency from the very companies that have helped fuel the conspiracies causing attacks? Our schools should be centers of learning, and your platforms have helped turn them into centers of a culture war. […] We're calling on your companies to take this threat seriously and prioritize the safety of people over profits – you can help put an end to the stream of propaganda fueling violence against educators in our communities. To that end, we're demanding that your companies make a public pledge to students, educators, and their families to regulate lies and fix your algorithms to put public safety over profits."
As the teachers’ unions look to mobilize several public and private organizations and agencies against an American public that has come to realize just what kind of pernicious, deleterious propaganda they’ve been cramming down on our children, other organizations, formed on behalf of patriotic and concerned parents and students, have taken notice and are taking the fight to them. On of those groups is Fight for Schools, whose executive director, Ian Prior noted, “This looks like a concerted effort between the federal government and outside groups like the NEA and NSBA to interfere with the First Amendment rights of parents.”
Parents Defending Education president Nicole Neily took the words right out of my mouth:
"It's unsurprising that NEA leadership is demonizing parents and concerned citizens who've expressed their concerns about the state of America's schools – after all, over the past two years it’s become abundantly clear that union leaders' primary objective is to maintain their iron grip on power – student achievement and welfare be damned.”
The facts are pretty simple. The teachers’ unions have incredible influence, and they’ve decided to use that influence to ask favors of their friends in government who share the same warm and fuzzy feelings about certain political ideologies. They’ve decided to make demands of Big Tech, and Big Tech will probably capitulate because the unions have friends in the government. Plus, Big Tech has the same warm and fuzzy feelings.
All the systems we worry about coming together to control what you do, what you hear, and what you say are doing just that: moving to control YOU and to control YOUR CHILDREN. It’s time to #FightLikeHell!
