You would think people would eventually try to stop trying to catch Ted Cruz on hidden camera (see WATCH: Actress Ellen Page Tries to Corner Ted Cruz on LGBT Issues. Gets OWNED… and Ted Cruz Destroys TWO College Students on Climate), but today isn't that day.

He was confronted by a DREAMer who is worried about being deported, since she and her fellow DREAMers are here illegally. Cruz didn't take the bait.

“I would note, if you’re a DACA recipient it means that you were brought here illegally, and violating the laws has consequences,” Cruz told the woman. “And one of the problems with our broken immigration system is that it is creating human tragedies and there are human tragedies when people break the law.”

“If I illegally emigrate to England or Germany or France or China or Mexico, and they catch me, they will deport me,” he said. “That’s what every other country on Earth does, and there’s no reason that America’s laws should have less respect than the laws of every other country on Earth.”

“We should welcome people who come following the laws, but there are consequences for breaking the laws, and that is part of what makes America the nation that we are,” the Texas Republican added.

Unfortunately the video comes from the DNC, so "As President, I Will Deport You" was their intellectually dishonest strawman, not ours. Shocking that they would be dishonest about a DREAMer, I know.

However, to the conservative base who is fed up with the mantra of "we must take all the people from all the world because there's just no actual explanation other than we must give them welfare benefits," this will be a verified feather in Cruz's cap. Where a lily-livered, touchy-feeling worm might cave and be all "Oh, I care about you, you can stay," Cruz said "Sorry you broke the law. But you're here illegally. Take your pity party back to the country from which you came."

Okay, his message was more measured than that, but still.
